Fumbles late at BMW International
July 5, 2026
Du Plessis fired a six-under 66 in the final round of the BMW International Open on the DP World Tour to finish solo second and one stroke back of winner Michael Hollick.
ANALYSIS
Du Plessis opened the tournament with a bogey-free, eight-under 64 score Thursday. Although he went three-under over the next two days, he was in the driver's seat in the final round after going seven-under through 16 holes (including three-straight birdies from the 13th to the 15th. However, a bogey on the par-3 17th left the door ajar, and his one-stroke lead evaporated after Hollick went birdie-eagle over the last two holes. It was a tough loss for Du Plessis, who has four top-5 finishes on the DP World Tour this season (including two runner-ups) but is still seeking his maiden victory. On the plus side, he's now 10th in the Race to Dubai Rankings, with the top-10 players at the end of the season earning membership to the PGA Tour for the 2027 season (excluding those already exempt). Du Plessis will tee off at the Genesis Scottish Open next week.
