Hillier dug himself in an early hole with a five-over 75 in the first round, when he carded a double bogey, six bogeys and three birdies. He connected on only five of 13 fairways (38.5 percent) on Thursday, and he ranked 152nd out of 156 players in SG: Around-the-Green. The New Zealander will look to bounce back next week at The Open Championship, where he's missed the cut in three of four prior outings at golf's oldest major.
