2026 Fantasy Outlook
It was a long road back from injury for Berger, we last saw him at the peak of his powers in 2022, but an injury sidelined him for all of 2023 and greatly affected his results in 2024. This past year, however, he started to resemble the golfer he was prior to 2022. He did tail off a bit at the end of the season, but that was to be expected after playing so much golf in a short span after a long layoff. Berger is in his early-30s, so he had plenty of peak years in front of him. As long as he stays healthy, he should continue to improve and at some point, get back to the player that won four events in six years. Berger is a top 30 player if everything goes right and as such, he deserves a look in salary cap leagues this season. Read Past Outlooks
Collapses in second round to miss cut
Berger posted a nine-over 81 in the second round of the Memorial Tournament to miss the cut by four strokes.
ANALYSIS
Muirfield proved to be a tough course for the field over the first two days of the tournament, but Berger got off to a nice start with an even-par 72 in the first round. He had plenty of wiggle room to work with after the cut line was set at five-over, and he was one-under through the first five holes of the second round. However, he proceeded to go five-over from holes six to nine before losing another five strokes on the back nine, which included a triple bogey on the par-4 14th. Berger struggled in his short game Friday and lost 4.36 strokes around the green, which was the worst out of the 72-man field. It's the third time this season that he has missed the cut, with the last taking place at The Masters in April. Berger is not listed in the field for the RBC Canadian Open, so his next appearance will be in two weeks at the U.S. Open Championship. He finished T46 last year, but his best outing at the major was a T6 in 2018, which was the last time that the U.S. Open was hosted at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club.

Berger is trying to make his way back and prove that he can still be one of the better players in the world even after all the back injuries he has dealt with over the last few years. Prior to the start of 2024, Berger had not played on the PGA Tour since missing the cut at the 2022 U.S. Open. As expected he was pretty rusty, but did show flashes at times with five top-25s, including a runner-up at the RSM Classic. The ball-striking gives reason for optimism as Berger ranked top-15 in total driving and GIR percentage. The short game and putting needs to take a big jump forward, however, if he is ever to fully regain his old form.
