2026 Fantasy Outlook
Smotherman made 76 total starts on the PGA Tour from 2021 to 2024 before spending his 2025 campaign on the Korn Ferry Tour, where he posted seven top-10s and 13 top-25s across 24 starts, highlighted by a couple wins at the BMW Charity Pro-Am and the Memorial Health Championship. The 31-year-old ranked top 8 among his KFT peers in total driving, driving accuracy and GIR percentage, but 29.71 putts per round probably won't get the job done at the next level. Smotherman's momentum also waned down the stretch, placing no better than T38 throughout his last six outings, which included a trio of missed cuts as well. Read Past Outlooks
T2 in Cognizant Classic
Smotherman posted a 15-under cumulative score at the Cognizant Classic to finish tied with Taylor Moore and Shane Lowry for second, two strokes back of winner Nico Echavarria.
ANALYSIS
Smotherman stood atop the leaderboard after an outstanding opening round, when he carded six consecutive birdies from holes seven to 12 to finish with a bogey-free, nine-under 62. He held onto his lead until the end of the third round, when he was caught by Lowry, and Smotherman found himself fading out of contention after going even on the front nine of the final round. Smotherman ended things on a positive note with a two-under score on the back nine, and while he wasn't able to capture his first PGA Tour victory, his T2 was still his best finish at a Tour event. The 31-year-old American led the field at PGA National in GIR and birdies made and ranked in the top-10 in SG: Off-the-Tee and SG: Around-the-Green. Smotherman will tee it up at the Arnold Palmer Invitational next week as part of the Aon Next 10. That will be huge for his season to play in a Signature Event.
