2026 Fantasy Outlook
Since graduating from the Korn Ferry Tour in 2017, Putnam was unable to retain his full status for the first time as he failed to record a top-5 finish and only had two top-10s for the second straight year. Life is not easy on Tour these days when you rank second to last in driving distance, but Putnam ranked fifth in accuracy and in the top-20 in SG: Around-the-green and putting to make up for it. There aren't many courses he can seriously contend at anymore, and he'll need to improve his iron play to regain full status in 2027. Read Past Outlooks
Slips to T51 after Sunday 74
Putnam carded a three-over 74 in the final round of the John Deere Classic to finish tied for 51st.
ANALYSIS
Putnam was 11-under through the first three rounds and was sitting just outside the top-10 of the leaderboard heading into Sunday. He was even through the front nine of the final round but was sunk by back-to-back double bogeys on the 14th and 15th holes, and he's now finished outside the top-50 in four of his last five tournaments (including T55 at the PGA Championship and T65 at the U.S. Open). Putnam was one of the better performers on the green at TPC Deere Run, gaining 4.79 strokes with his putter (ninth) while also ranking seventh in feet of putts made and 26th in SG: Approach. However, he also lost 5.54 strokes off the tee, which was dead last out of the 79 players who made the cut. Putnam will tee off next week at the Genesis Scottish Open, where he's missed the cut in each of the last two years following his T42 in his event debut in 2023.

It was going to be difficult for Putnam to match a strong 2023 in which he nearly qualified for the Tour Championship, but he missed the playoffs entirely as he only posted a pair of top-10s which both came before April. The veteran ranked second-to-last on Tour in driving distance, which certainly limits his upside and puts him at a significant disadvantage at a lot of venues. With that said, he's above average in every other area and one of the best bunker players on Tour. Putnam also plays a busy schedule, having teed-it-up in 60 tournaments across the last two seasons.
