2026 Fantasy Outlook
Since graduating from the Korn Ferry Tour in 2017, Putnam was unable to retain his full status for the first time as he failed to record a top-5 finish and only had two top-10s for the second straight year. Life is not easy on Tour these days when you rank second to last in driving distance, but Putnam ranked fifth in accuracy and in the top-20 in SG: Around-the-green and putting to make up for it. There aren't many courses he can seriously contend at anymore, and he'll need to improve his iron play to regain full status in 2027. Read Past Outlooks
First top 5 on Tour since 2023
Putnam finished in a share of second place at The American Express after shooting a four-under 68 in the final round.
ANALYSIS
Putnam had quite the ride this week. He began with an even-par 72 in the first round, but followed with a 12-under 60 in the second round. Putnam's bid for 59 just slid by on his final hole at La Quinta Country Club on Friday. After a strong 65 in round three, Putnam put himself only a few shots back of the lead. After bogeying his first hole on Sunday, Putnam then rallied with six birdies to close the front-nine. He was tied for the lead with Scottie Scheffler at one point, but bogeys on 10 and 13 did in his chances to win as Scheffler continued to rack up birdies. Putnam will be playing off of conditional status this season, so a strong T2 finish early in the season could go a long way. This was his first top-5 finish anywhere since late 2023. Putnam will be in the field for next week's Farmers Insurance Open.

It was going to be difficult for Putnam to match a strong 2023 in which he nearly qualified for the Tour Championship, but he missed the playoffs entirely as he only posted a pair of top-10s which both came before April. The veteran ranked second-to-last on Tour in driving distance, which certainly limits his upside and puts him at a significant disadvantage at a lot of venues. With that said, he's above average in every other area and one of the best bunker players on Tour. Putnam also plays a busy schedule, having teed-it-up in 60 tournaments across the last two seasons.
