Move to LT being considered

March 30, 2026
Lions head coach Dan Campbell said that the team has discussed moving Sewell (ankle) from right to left tackle this offseason but that no final decision has been made yet, Albert Breer of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Sewell's last time primarily playing left tackle came back in 2019 with Oregon, when he earned Outland Trophy honors as the best collegiate offensive lineman, per Dave Birkett of The Detroit Free Press. While Sewell also did start the first eight games of his NFL career at LT in 2021 as an injury fill-in, he's since operated at RT and emerged as arguably the league's top player at the position. Following the departure of longtime LT Taylor Decker, however, having Sewell guard QB Jared Goff's blind side could be the anchor the Lions' new-look O-line requires to thrive.

Might be shifted to left tackle
OTDetroit Lions
March 30, 2026
Sewell could be moved to left tackle, Eric Woodyard of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 25-year-old has been a first-team All-Pro at right tackle each of the last three seasons, but with the Lions moving on from Taylor Decker this offseason, they now have a very large hole on the other side of the line. Sewell played left tackle in college at Oregon before being selected seventh overall in the 2021 NFL Draft, so he should be able to handle the adjustment without issue. Detroit is also likely to have better luck finding a new right tackle in this year's draft class.
