Hennessy, who started all 17 games at center in 2021, has battled a lingering knee injury for almost a year and was relegated to backup duties in 2022, but he's expected to be healthy for Week 1 of 2023. When available, the 2020 third-round pick will compete with rookie second-round pick Matthew Bergeron for the starting left guard spot now that Elijah Wilkinson is in Arizona.
Hennessy took over as the Falcons' primary center in 2021 after Alex Mack signed with the 49ers last offseason, and the 2020 third-round pick is expected to beat out Drew Dalman for a starting gig during a second straight training camp.
The second-year center had his first two career starts last season as a rookie when Alex Mack went down with an injury. During those starts the Falcons clearly saw enough from the 2020 third-round pick to believe he was ready to be the starter in 2021 as they let Alex Mack leave in free agency.
