The Texans agreed to terms Monday on a trade that will send Scruggs, a fourth-round pick and a seventh-round pick to the Lions in exchange for running back David Montgomery, Dianna Russini of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Scruggs suited up for all 17 regular-season games (one start) with Houston in 2025 but struggled in that span, making it unlikely that Detroit plans for him to play more than a depth role. The 2023 second-round pick has experience at both center and guard, so at the very least he stands to provide the Lions with versatility along the interior O-line.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2025
2023
Scruggs, who moved from center to right guard midseason in 2024, opened the OTAs on the second unit at left guard. Houston brought in several new bodies during the offseason to compete for spots on a unit the allowed 52 sacks in 2024. One of those new linemen is Laken Tomlinson, who worked with the first team at left guard.
Scruggs' fate changed dramatically during training camp. The second-round draft pick in the 2023 Draft was slated to learn and grow as the backup center, but Scott Quessenberry's season-ending knee ligament (ACL and MCL) injuries moves Scruggs into a prominent role as the starter.
