2024 Fantasy Outlook
Clowney is one of two key pass rushers that the Panthers added this offseason after trading star outside linebacker Brian Burnes to the Giants. The South Carolina native agreed to a two-year deal worth up to $24 million after posting 43 tackles, including 9.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and five passes defended with the Ravens last season. Clowney is expected to start opposite D.J. Wonnum at OLB, and the former again has a chance to shine as a top pass rusher in this league in 2024. Read Past Outlooks
Disappoints in Carolina
Clowney recorded 46 total tackles, including 5.5 sacks, and four passes defended over 14 games in 2024.
ANALYSIS
The 2014 first-round pick from South Carolina signed a two-year, $20 million deal with the Panthers this past offseason after tying his career high in sacks (9.5) in 2023 with the Ravens. Clowney was brought in to help bolster a struggling Panthers pass rush that ranked dead last in the NFL in sacks (27.0) in 2023, but his first season in Carolina did not go as planned. The 31-year-old posted his lowest sack total of any season in which he appeared in 14 or more games, while the Panthers' defense once again ranked among the NFL's bottom-four teams in sacks (32.0). Clowney is expected to benefit from the return of fellow edge rusher D.J. Wonnum, who missed nine games in 2024, potentially making his job a bit easier heading into the 2025 season.

Clowney joined the Browns on a one-year deal after a year in Tennessee. Cleveland was also interested in him last season, but Clowney decided to pass. He ended up playing just eight games and missed the second half of the 2020 season after undergoing knee surgery. Though he didn't have a sack last year, Clowney logged 22 hurries over eight games, per Pro Football Focus. He was getting near quarterbacks, but not taking them down. That might change in 2021, as teams need to game plan for the team's other starting defensive end, Myles Garrett.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Might get dealt
Clowney could be shopped by the Panthers ahead of the November 5 trade deadline, Albert Breer of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
A number of contenders will be looking to bolster their pass rushes at the deadline, including the Falcons, Ravens and Lions, but Clowney may not be a high-priority target. The 32-year-old has missed the last two games with a shoulder injury, and he has just 1.0 sacks in five contests on the season. Clowney did record 9.5 sacks in 17 regular-season games for Baltimore in 2023, however, so a reunion could make sense once he gets healthy.
