2026 Fantasy Outlook
Waller came out of retirement to join the Dolphins prior to the start of the 2025 season for his first action since the 2023 campaign. Hip and pectoral injuries limited him to nine appearances for the Dolphins, and Waller averaged a meager 31.4 receiving yards per game, though he caught six touchdown passes, which was the second-highest total among his nine NFL seasons. Waller has dealt with myriad injuries throughout his career, playing more than 12 games only twice, with the last such season coming in 2020. He was one of the league’s best pass-catching TEs in his heyday, but those days have long since passed the 33-year-old Waller by. At this point, Waller’s more likely to remain unsigned and go back into retirement than to stay healthy enough to be a meaningful contributor. Read Past Outlooks
Ends season on IR
The Dolphins placed Waller (groin) on injured reserve Friday.
ANALYSIS
Waller could not get on the practice field in any capacity throughout Week 18 prep, and he'll now move to IR in advance of Sunday's season finale against the Patriots. The veteran tight end thus wraps his comeback campaign, having come out of retirement to play for the Dolphins in 2025, with 24 catches for 283 yards and six touchdowns (on 34 targets) across nine regular-season appearances. While Waller's overall production doesn't jump off the page, when healthy he showcased playmaking ability and a capacity to thrive in the red zone that should appeal to multiple offenses across the league. That said, Waller played out 2025 on a one-year, $2 million deal with Miami and now is set to hit free agency, and it remains to be seen whether the 33-year-old tight end will even decide to return for another NFL season. Greg Dulcich will operate as the top pass-catching tight end for rookie quarterback Quinn Ewers in Week 18 with Waller unavailable.

A day after the Dolphins traded TE Jonnu Smith to the Steelers, Waller came out of retirement to become Miami's new No. 1 tight end. It's unclear just what the Dolphins are getting, though, as Waller sat out all last season and will turn 33 in mid-September. He hasn't played a full season since 2020 because of injuries, last suiting up for just 12 games in 2023 with the Giants. If Waller is healthy and able, he should at least get consistent work in the Dolphins' offense. Smith totaled 111 targets last season as Miami utilized a quick passing game to keep pressure of injury-prone Tua Tagovailoa. If the Dolphins stick with that gameplan, Waller perhaps could get about four targets per game with RB De'Von Archer likely sucking up the rest of Smith's leftovers. If that doesn't quite pan out, Waller at least has red-zone upside at 6-foot-6, 245.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Not expected back in Miami
Waller isn't expected to re-sign with the Dolphins, Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
The veteran tight end came out of retirement last season and suited up for nine regular-season games with Miami, catching 24 passes for 283 yards and six touchdowns in an offense that featured significant turmoil at quarterback. The Dolphins seem happy with Greg Dulcich as their top TE and will be looking to add a younger option in the draft, leaving no room for a reunion with Waller.
