Trying out with Green Bay
The Packers brought Claypool in for a tryout Friday, Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Claypool has bounced around the NFL in his six-year tenure. The wide receiver bounced between the Steelers and Bears twice before being dealt to Miami from Chicago during the 2023 season. Eventually, he ended up on the Bills' practice squad before suffering a toe injury that kept him sidelined for the entirety of the 2025 season. The Packers had exhibited prior interest in Claypool and will now get an extended up-close look at the 2020 second-round pick. If Claypool can rediscover the strong play he flashed during his first two NFL seasons, he could prove to be an adequate replacement for Dontayvion Wicks, who was traded to the Eagles in early April.

Claypool, who turns 26 in July, burst on the scene as a rookie second-rounder with the Steelers in 2020 with 62 receptions for 873 yards and 11 total touchdowns. He scored only twice in his second year, but his other numbers were comparable. The Notre Dame product then was shipped to Chicago in a mid-season trade in 2022 and never really got things going in two partial seasons there. On the heels of an eight-catch effort (in three games with the Bears and nine with the Dolphins) last season, Claypool gets a fresh opportunity with a great quarterback in Buffalo in a wideout corps in transition. Last year's top two options at the position are gone, leaving Khalil Shakir as the top holdover.
