2025 Fantasy Outlook
Wagner is the personification of the phrase, age is just a number. He joined his third team in as many seasons in 2024 but still managed 132 tackles in his age-34 season while also logging 1,017 defensive snaps. The underlying metrics also remained impeccable, as he had just a 5.7 percent missed tackle rate. Although we didn't see it in 2024, there is some risk Wagner is rested on passing downs after the Commanders drafted cover-linebacker Kaine Medrano in the sixth round this year. But sixth-round picks don't usually make immediate impacts, and even if Medrano carves out a small role eventually, Wagner will dominate snaps on early downs and continue to pile up tackles. With 1,838 career tackles, he has a shot this year at becoming the third player all-time with 2,000 tackles. Read Past Outlooks
Double-digit stops Christmas Day
Wagner logged 10 tackles (five solo), including 0.5 sacks, and one pass defense during the Commanders' 30-23 loss to the Cowboys on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Wagner played all 92 defensive snaps Christmas Day, which was the second-most in his career (94 defensive snaps in Week 7 of the 2016 season). He combined with Jer'Zhan Newton for a five-yard sack on Dak Prescott midway through the third quarter, bringing Wagner up 2.5 sacks over his last four games. Wagner has accumulated 157 combined tackles through 16 regular-season games, which is currently the fifth most in his 14-year NFL career. Week 18 against the Eagles is Wagner's last opportunity to add to his tackling total, and with five more stops, he would join Ray Lewis and London Fletcher as the third player in NFL history to record 2,000 career tackles.

Wagner is entering his 13th season in the NFL but has shown few signs of slowing down, posting at least 140 tackles in each of his last three seasons. After joining the revamped Commanders' defensive unit this offseason, there's little doubt that Wagner remains a centerpiece of any team he's a part of. If there is a concern to point towards, it has been Wagner's slip in his work in coverage. He's allowed 11.5 and 10.4 yards per catch as a cover linebacker the last two seasons after beginning his career by allowing under 10.0 yards per reception in six of 10 campaigns. At a relatively advanced age, it's difficult to see Wagner bouncing back against quicker running backs and tight ends. That opens some risk he's taken off the field a bit more, hurting his overall numbers. Nevertheless, Wagner has a locked-in floor that should keep him among the better tacklers at the position.
