Posts 162 tackles at age 35
Wagner recorded 162 tackles (79 solo), including 4.5 sacks, while adding two interceptions among his four passes defensed in 2025.
ANALYSIS
Wagner delivered another excellent statistical season at age 35, tying the second-best totals of his 14-year career for interceptions and sacks while dressing for all 17 games. He has exceeded 100 tackles in every regular season of his career and sits at an even 2,000. Despite his advanced age, Wagner should draw plenty of interest in free agency this offseason if he chooses to continue playing.

Wagner is entering his 13th season in the NFL but has shown few signs of slowing down, posting at least 140 tackles in each of his last three seasons. After joining the revamped Commanders' defensive unit this offseason, there's little doubt that Wagner remains a centerpiece of any team he's a part of. If there is a concern to point towards, it has been Wagner's slip in his work in coverage. He's allowed 11.5 and 10.4 yards per catch as a cover linebacker the last two seasons after beginning his career by allowing under 10.0 yards per reception in six of 10 campaigns. At a relatively advanced age, it's difficult to see Wagner bouncing back against quicker running backs and tight ends. That opens some risk he's taken off the field a bit more, hurting his overall numbers. Nevertheless, Wagner has a locked-in floor that should keep him among the better tacklers at the position.

David replacement in Tampa Bay?
Saad Yousuf of The Athletic believes that Wagner would be a good fit with the Buccaneers.
ANALYSIS
Lavonte David announced his retirement from the NFL on Tuesday, and while the Buccaneers signed Alex Anzalone to a two-year contract in early March, Yousef believes that Tampa Bay could do more to bolster the middle of its defense. Wagner has logged 100-plus tackles every season since being drafted by the Seahawks in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft. His 162 total tackles across 17 regular-season games last year with the Commanders were the fourth-most of his NFL career, demonstrating that Wagner -- who turns 36 years old in June -- still has plenty left in the tank.
