2026 Projections
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Okereke missed the final five games of the 2024 season due to a herniated disc in his back, though it was a certainty that he would have tallied at least 100 tackles for the fourth straight year had he remained healthy. He's in an equally strong position entering 2025, as he's set to pair with Micah McFadden in the middle of the Giants' linebacker corps. McFadden's struggles in coverage are important for Okereke, making the latter a near-lock for every down work and providing him with additional opportunity to rack up tackles. Okereke's own work in coverage and as a pass rusher has been inconsistent, but he remains a strong run stuffer with an undeniable role and ability to rack up stops. Expect another strong year in 2025. Read Past Outlooks
Being let go by Giants
The Giants are slated to release Okereke, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports.
ANALYSIS
The move will clear $9 million in salary cap space, with $5.4 million left over in dead money. The inside linebacker, who turns 30 in July, is coming off a 2025 regular season in which he recorded a team-high 143 tackles and two picks in 17 games. Despite his age, Okereke is likely to have plenty of suitors in free agency.

When Okereke signed with the Giants prior to the 2023 season, there was virtually no doubt that he'd pile up tackles at among the most prolific rates in the league. He didn't disappoint in that regard, tallying 149 total tackles. What did change was his ability to be effective in other roles. He had regularly been asked to work in coverage throughout his career, but something clicked with Big Blue as he came up with a career-high 10 passes defensed, translating to two interceptions. The difference in his role came as a pass rusher, as he logged a career-best 137 snaps as a pass rusher, resulting in 2.5 sacks. In contrast, he had only two sacks combined across his first four seasons in the league. The Giants have a new defensive coaching staff which could mean his role changes again, but at worst he's going to be on the field consistently while piling a ton of tackles.

Roster decision coming
Okereke may not return to the Giants in 2026, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The 29-year-old linebacker racked up 143 tackles over 17 games in 2025, the fourth time in the last five seasons he's topped 130 stops, but Okereke has seen his coverage skills decline over the last few years. He's due a $3 million roster bonus on March 13, and cutting him before that kicks in would create $9 million in cap space for the Giants next season while incurring a $5.5 million dead cap hit.
