Declares for draft
DeVito announced Thursday via his personal Twitter account that he won't return to Illinois and will instead enter the 2023 NFL Draft.
ANALYSIS
DeVito's move to the professional ranks was fully expected after he recently had his request for a waiver for a seventh season of eligibility denied by the NCAA. After joining Illinois as a transfer from Syracuse last offseason, DeVito claimed the starting quarterback role and passed for 2,650 yards and 15 touchdowns along with four interceptions while adding six scores on the ground to lead the Fighting Illini to their first bowl appearance since 2019.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2022
2019
DeVito and the Fighting Illini are in need of the exact same thing heading into the 2022 season: an offensive reset. DeVito showed promise as a starting quarterback during his sophomore season with Syracuse, throwing for 2,360 passing yards, a 19:5 TD:INT ratio and a 63.2 completion percentage, but he played just seven games over the past two seasons with Syracuse. Likewise, new offensive coordinator Barry Lunney Jr. should help improve Illinois’ abysmal passing offense, which ranked 124th nationally in yards per attempt (5.8) last season. Illinois’ commitment to improving through the air, while still relying on a solid ground game, should allow DeVito to build upon his impressive debut in Illinois’ spring game, in which he threw for 248 yards and three touchdowns on 16-of-20 passing.
