ANALYSIS
Mariota passed for 333 yards with two touchdowns and an interception in Oregon's College Football Playoff Championship loss to Ohio State on Monday. The 2014 Heisman winner leaves the Ducks as all-time leader in numerous categories, including career total offensive yards (13,089), career passing yards (10,801) and career passing touchdowns (105). He also holds the Pac-12 career total touchdown mark with 135, which is quite a feat in only three seasons. Mariota is the odds-on favorite to be selected No. 1 overall in April's draft.

Mariota followed up his brilliant 2012 debut with an even better 2013, throwing for nearly 1,000 more yards while averaging 1.5 more yards per pass. The result was 3,665 passing yards, 31 touchdowns and four interceptions with 715 rushing yards (7.5 YPC) and nine touchdowns. He did all that despite playing through an MCL sprain in the last six games. Although the loss of top wideouts Josh Huff (NFL) and Bralon Addison (knee) are a concern, Mariota has a deep group of tight ends to throw to and brings back his entire starting offensive line from last year. He's within reach of the No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, so both Mariota and Oregon have reason to run up the stats in 2014.

Like Manziel and Hundley, Mariota was remarkably productive as a redshirt freshman in 2012, beating out the formidable veteran Bryan Bennett for the starting role at Oregon on his way to a dominant debut. Mariota threw for 2,677 yards (8.0 YPA), 32 touchdowns and just six interceptions in 13 games while bolting for 752 yards (7.1 YPC) and five touchdowns. The Ducks will maintain a similar offensive scheme in 2013 despite the departure of Chip Kelly and, with Kenjon Barner (21.5 carries per game in 2012) in the NFL, Mariota could have a greater workload both as a passer and runner in 2013.

Mariota was a big hit in the Oregon offseason and looks like a future star for the program, but it isn't clear how soon that day might come. Bryan Bennett was a higher recruit for Oregon and did very well as backup in 2011, so it's not clear whether Mariota's superior spring performance is enough to earn him the starting quarterback role at Oregon heading into 2012. For the time being it looks like he will haunt Bennett's fantasy value more than he will establish any for himself, though all of that is subject to change with no notice under Chip Kelly.
