2024 Fantasy Outlook
Monangai has virtually no competition as the lead back for the Scarlet Knights. Quarterback Gavin Wimsatt tallied the second-most carries in the 2023 season, and he even had 100 fewer than Monangai. In addition, the introduction of Minnesota transfer Athan Kaliakmanis under center raises some questions about the passing game of the Rutgers squad. Kaliakmanis isn't quite the athlete Wimsatt is, so Monangai could see an even heavier carry share, not to mention there's room for better production near the goal line. The only issue for the 5-foot-9 senior suffered a minor injury, halting his practice abilities in spring, but it sounds as though he should be good for fall camp. If the recovery timeline holds true, the running back is ready for another year of producing on the ground for a team where the rushing game may be the only possibility for consistent yardage, especially against national contenders in the Big Ten. Logs 25 carries in return Week 12
Monangai had 25 rushes for 97 yards and two touchdowns and caught their only target for three yards during Saturday's 31-17 victory versus Maryland.
ANALYSIS
Monangai reprised his bell-cow role after missing last week's win against Minnesota with a head injury. The senior running back actually logged over 20 carries for the first time since Week 5, and he scored on touchdowns of two and six yards. He also surpassed 1,000 rushing yards on the season and increased his touchdown total to 12 through nine games. Over the final two games against Illinois and Michigan State, Monangai should have a solid chance to overtake his career-high 1,262 rushing yards that he set last season.

2022 Fantasy Outlook
Monangai looks primed to take over Rutgers’ starting running back job as the team’s top returner at the position. Despite measuring just 5-foot-9, Monangai weighs in at 205 pounds and runs larger than his diminutive stature would suggest. The redshirt sophomore finished the 2021 season as the team’s third-leading rusher behind quarterback Noah Vedral, however, and he will likely continue to lose carries to whoever the Scarlet Knight’s starting signal-caller is in 2022. Rutgers has lacked a Big-Ten caliber offensive line over the past few years, which was reflected in Rutgers' inefficient running game that averaged 3.6 yards per carry last season. Nevertheless, unless Rutgers can field a productive passing game with up-and-coming quarterback Gavin Wimsatt, offensive coordinator Sean Gleeson’s quick-hitting unit should continue to lean into a dual-threat rushing attack that benefits a running back like Monangai.
