2025 Fantasy Outlook
Houser, unable to find a role with Michigan State and losing his head coach, made the move to East Carolina prior to the 2024 season. Unfortunately, his season began with a Week 1 injury that kept him sidelined for the majority of the first five games. When Houser got healthy, he returned to the starting role and went on to throw for 18 touchdowns in those eight games, though he also tossed 11 interceptions. That's concerning, given that in his last season with the Spartans, he threw for six touchdowns against five interceptions. Houser did have wrist surgery in the offseason, but he's expected to be fine. Houser seems locked in as the likely starter for the Piates this fall, and he's a bit of a rushing threat, amassing 49 carries for 170 yards and four scores last season. However, Mike Wright, who has formerly started at Vanderbilt and Mississippi State, is now a Pirate. It's not impossible Wright could see occasional work as a rusher, and Houser's job could come into question if things go really wrong, but Wright isn't exactly known for his passing ability. Assuming he keeps his job, Houser should be a fantasy asset worth a selection in most fantasy formats this fall, and there's upside if he can stay healthy for the full 12 games. Read Past Outlooks
Impressing this spring
Houser has impressed his new teammates and coaches at Illinois this spring, per Scott Richey of The News-Gazette.
ANALYSIS
Houser arrived in Champaign after two quiet seasons at Michigan State followed by two solid years at East Carolina. In 2025, he tossed for 3,300 yards and 19 touchdowns to six interceptions while completing 66 percent of his passes for the Pirates. He also added 193 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground. He's reportedly gained the respect and admiration of teammates and coaches alike this spring, not simply due to his play but also due to his demeanor and confidence. Houser has big shoes to fill replacing Luke Altmyer, but by all accounts, he's more than capable.
