Hardy came out of nowhere to win the starting running back job at Louisiana-Monroe as a true freshman, and then he shocked the nation again by rushing 237 times for 1,351 yards and 13 touchdowns. He finished with the 12th-most rushing yards in the country. Hardy will look to up the expectations once again in 2025, as he's slated to serve as the top tailback for Missouri as a sophomore. The Tigers used two running backs last season in Nate Noel and Marcus Carroll - both of whom also transferred in from the Sun Belt Conference - and the duo combined for 303 carries, 1,413 yards and 15 touchdowns. Both Noel and Carroll graduated, leaving sophomore Jamal Roberts and freshman Marquise Davis as Hardy's biggest competition for touches. Might not be ready for opener
Hardy (leg) has been medically cleared and is working on his recovery, head coach Eli Drinkwitz told TexAgs.com in the SEC Media Day on Monday. "Ahmad has been medically cleared from the bullet that struck him, and he is on the road to recovery. The bullet did strike a bone, and that has been fully healed and clear. ... We do anticipate that he will make a full recovery."

Hardy was the victim of a shooting at a concert in Mississippi in May, and while he's been medically cleared to play, he still has other steps to clear in the return-to-play protocol. According to Drinkwitz, that will take around five to eight weeks, meaning he could be available for the season opener against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sep. 3 in a best-case scenario, but it wouldn't be surprising if he misses some time either. A return to play around mid-September, potentially to face Troy on Sep. 19 or Mississippi State on Sep. 26, could be a more realistic scenario, and it remains to be seen how much of workload the star back can handle upon his return. If Hardy isn't ready for the opener, then Jamal Roberts, Xai'Shaun Edwards and Malae Fonoti would be options to get more work in the Tigers' backfield.
