2024 Tournament PreviewIt's wash, rinse and repeat for Tony Bennett and the Cavaliers. While the names change, the style remains the same, as Virginia milks possessions with the slowest tempo in the country (per KenPom) and a top-10 defense in efficiency. A down year for the ACC kept Virginia on the bubble most of the season, as did a major step back offensively. While senior guard Reece Beekman (14.3 ppg, 6.3 apg, 2.1 spg) is the primary threat, he doesn't get much help. The Cavs rank 246th in effective field-goal rate and particularly struggle to convert in the paint, ranking 310th in the nation in 2-point field-goal percentage. The only long-distance threats are Isaac McKneely (12.5 ppg), who shoots 44.9 percent from distance, and 6-9 Jacob Groves (7.5 ppg), who hits 46.7 percent. Virginia went 2-6 in Quad 1 games, and it's difficult to expect long-term dancing with an offense prone to going cold, even if they survive the 10-seed play-in game in the South.
