2024 Tournament PreviewMichigan State started the year with a home loss to James Madison, and a tough early season schedule led to losses to Duke, Arizona, Wisconsin and Nebraska. The Spartans bounced back to beat Baylor and started Big Ten play 9-6, but then barely scraped into the tournament after dropping four of five to close the regular season and losing in the conference tourney quarterfinals. Despite the up-and-down, coach Tom Izzo's team has no bad losses and ranks eighth in defensive efficiency, per KenPom. Senior guard Tyson Walker (18.2 ppg), who shoots 37.3 percent from 3-point range, leads four scorers in double figures, but the Spartans really lack a big man. A 6-11 five-star freshman, Xavier Booker (3.6 ppg, 1.6 rpg) hasn't panned out, and it's been a revolving door at the five all year. As such, MSU ranks outside the top 130 in both offensive and defensive rebounding rates, which is undoubtedly the team's biggest question.
