Career day despite defeat
CSMU
January 12, 2026
Toombs totaled 23 points (10-12 FG, 2-2 3Pt, 1-1 FT), seven rebounds and one steal across 34 minutes during Saturday's 82-75 loss to Duke.
ANALYSIS
Toombs missed the first 10 games of the season with a wrist injury, and his usage had been highly inconsistent even after getting cleared, serving essentially as the backup center to Samet Yigitoglu. Coach Andy Enfield switched things up Saturday and gave Toombs his first start of the season, and the freshman paid it back with career highs in scoring and rebounding against a tough Duke frontline. It still wasn't enough to knock off one of the top teams in the country on their home court, but Toombs more than showed he can take advantage of an expanded role when given the opportunity. It's unclear if Enfield will use the same lineup Wednesday against Virginia Tech, however.
