Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary
Jerome was born in 1997 in New York City to parents Melanie Walker and Mark Jerome, both of whom played collegiate basketball. He also has two brothers and two sisters. Jerome attended all four years of high school at Iona Preparatory School in New Rochelle, New York. He was named first-team All-Conference, All-Metropolitan and All-State after averaging 20.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists as a junior. He averaged 24.7 points as a senior before a hip injury cut his season short. Jerome attended Virginia for three years, where he majored in American studies. You can follow Jerome on Twitter (@tyjerome_) and Instagram (@tyjerome_). Jerome helped lead Virginia to the 2019 NCAA Tournament title. He had 16 points, eight assists and six rebounds in the championship game victory over Texas Tech. The New Rochelle, New York native was named to the 2019 NCAA All-Tournament Team. He also collected 2018-19 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Second Team honors. The Cavaliers guard led the ACC in assists -- both total (202) and per game (5.5) -- during the 18-19 season. He was also seventh in steals (57) in the 18-19 ACC season. Jerome announced that he would enter the 2019 NBA Draft after his junior year at Virginia. He was selected in the first round (24th) by the Philadelphia 76ers and subsequently traded to the Boston Celtics and the Phoenix Suns, respectively.
Rare production in spot start
GCleveland Cavaliers
November 18, 2024
Jerome ended Sunday's 128-114 victory over Charlotte with 24 points (9-15 FG, 4-7 3Pt, 2-2 FT), two rebounds and eight assists over 32 minutes.
ANALYSIS Jerome filled in admirably for Donovan Mitchell (rest) and was an obvious threat from the three-point line on the way to a season-high 24 points. The Virginia product also dished out eight dimes, surpassing his previous best mark of six assists against Chicago on Nov. 11. Expect this type of production to be short-lived for Jerome, as he figures to return to a bench role after giving Mitchell a quick breather.

2019
Despite a couple of positive moments last season, Jerome ended well outside the top 300, partly thanks to a season-ending injury. While he should be ready to go on opening night, there is a decent chance he fails to crack the rotation consistently. At this stage, the Thunder have too many moving pieces to nail down a productive backcourt, meaning Jerome could very well be on the outside looking in when it comes to minutes.
The 2019 first-round pick has appeared in only 64 total games through his first two NBA seasons, but he logged 23.9 minutes per game for the Thunder in 2020-21 -- a notable jump from his 10.6 MPG figure as a rookie in Phoenix. Jerome benefited from injuries and nights off for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Luguentz Dort, however, so it's unclear exactly where he'll fit in the rotation this season when the Thunder are at full strength. Oklahoma City also added Josh Giddey and Tre Mann in the 2021 Draft, while 2020 second-rounder Theo Maledon also returns. All three of those players, as well as Gilgeous-Alexander, could open the season ahead of Jerome on the depth chart, so his fantasy impact projects to be relatively minimal in 2021-22. However, the Thunder have one of the youngest and most unproven rosters in the league, and winning is not a priority, so like last season, it's possible Jerome could find his way into a consistent role off the bench at some point.
The 24th overall pick in the 2019 Draft, Jerome landed with the Suns. He's coming off of a National Championship with Virginia, where he averaged 13.6 points (43.5 FG%, 39.9 3P%, 73.6 FT%), 5.5 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 1.5 steals in 34.0 minutes as a junior. Those numbers were good enough to land him an ACC All-Second Team selection. With the Suns adding Ricky Rubio during the offseason, Jerome will have to fight for backup minutes along with Tyler Johnson, Elie Okobo and Jevon Carter. More clarity on the Suns' rotation may emerge during training camp and the preseason, but it doesn't seem like Jerome will be able to carve out a role that will result in standard fantasy league relevance.

Blossoming as a role player
GCleveland Cavaliers
November 5, 2024
Jerome is averaging 9.4 points, 2.0 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.4 steals while connecting on 58.7 percent of the shots in 15.1 minutes per game through Cleveland's first eight contests.
ANALYSIS Jerome's production is low volume, but hitting 46.1 percent of his 1.6 threes per game is similarly notable. Additionally, Jerome has been profiled as one of the most efficient drivers in the league, generating 1.476 points per possession across 65 opportunities. After missing almost all last season due to complications with his ankle, Jerome is emerging as a key component of Cleveland's bench unit.
