OG Anunoby

Ogugua "OG" Anunoby was born in London in 1997. Anunoby is named after his father, Ogugua, who moved his six children to Jefferson City, Missouri after receiving a professorship at the nearby Lincoln University. Anunoby got serious about basketball when he was eight year old, after his father purchased a 12 foot basketball hoop for the family's backyard. He soon graduated to the AAU and varsity basketball levels. Athletics has always been in his blood; Anunoby's mother competed in track and field at the national level in Nigeria, and his brother, Chigbo, was a defensive lineman in the NFL, most recently a member of the Cleveland Brown organization. Anunoby turned into a superstar at Jefferson City High School, where he averaged 21.3 points, 9.9 rebounds and 3.4 blocks per game as a junior, helping the Jayhawks to a 15-12 record. He averaged 19.1 points and 8.6 rebounds per game as a senior, and was named a finalist for Missouri Mr. Basketball. OG's last name is pronounced Ann-uh-no-bee. OG Anunoby spent two years at Indiana, from 2015 to 2017, appearing in 34 games over the course of his freshman season (2015-16) -- he averaged 4.9 points, and 2.6 rebounds per game as he came off the bench for all 34 games during his first year with the Hoosiers. Anunoby scored a season-high 14 points (6-7 FG) in a win over Chattanooga in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Things changed the next year, and Anunoby improved in nearly every statistical category. He started 10 games, averaging 11.1 points and 5.4 boards per game before his season was cut short by a knee injury. In sixteen games that year, he added 21 steals and another 21 blocked shots. Anunoby left Indiana for the NBA after his sophomore season, and was selected by the Toronto Raptors with the 23rd pick in the 2017 NBA Draft.
