Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary
Moussa Diabate was born on January of 2002 in Paris. He started playing basketball at age 12 with Sporting Club Maccabi de Paris. After a few months, he moved to USD Charonne, where his passion for the game grew, and he later competed for Saint Charles de Charenton Saint Maurice. At age 14, he moved to the United States to advance his basketball career. In eighth grade, he joined the middle school program of Montverde Academy in Montverde, Florida and learned English. As a freshman in high school, Diabate played for Florida Preparatory Academy in Melbourne, Florida. For his sophomore season, he transferred to DME Academy in Daytona Beach, Florida. That year Diabate averaged 17.9 points, 11.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game for DME. After the season, Diabate competed for Nightrydas Elite at the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League. For his junior season, he moved to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida and helped IMG reach the City of Palms Classic final. In his senior season, Diabate led IMG to a 21-3 record and averaged 14.1 points and 7.5 rebounds per contest. He was then selected for both the Jordan Brand Classic and McDonald's All-American Game. As a five-star recruit and a top power forward in the class of 2021, he committed to the University of Michigan over offers from Arizona, Kentucky and others. In his first season as a Wolverine, Diabate had a productive year and was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team. In late April of 2022, he declared for the NBA Draft while maintaining his college eligibility. Then in June, Diabate fully committed to the 2022 Draft. The Los Angeles Clippers selected him in the second round with the 43rd pick. Fans can follow the big forward on Twitter via @M0ussaDiabate.
Grabs seven boards in loss
CCharlotte Hornets
December 21, 2024
Diabate produced seven points (2-4 FG, 3-4 FT) and seven rebounds in 18 minutes during Friday's 108-98 loss to Philadelphia.
ANALYSIS Diabate saw additional playing time with Mark Williams resting on the second night of a back-to-back. After proving his worth as an elite offensive rebounder earlier in the season, Diabate's opportunities are now likely to be few and far between given both Williams and Nick Richards are healthy.

Among league's best rebounders
CCharlotte Hornets
November 16, 2024
Diabate ranks fourth league-wide in both offensive and defensive rebounding rate, representing the only player to place in the top five for both categories, per Second Spectrum. Diabate has compiled 41 rebounds across his last three games, which mark the first contests of his NBA career in which he's received more than 20 minutes of action.
ANALYSIS Diabate trails only Jusuf Nurkic, Jarrett Allen and Karl-Anthony Towns in defensive rebounding rate, while Kevon Looney, Goga Bitadze and Jonathan Mogbo are the only players ahead of Diabate in offensive rebounding percentage. Diabate's physique and athleticism has always made him a mismatch for opponents; however, normally that was leveraged by attacking smaller forwards as opposed to being weaponized as a true center. Nonetheless, the 6-foot-9 big's rebounding instincts have helped earn him an astounding plus-24.9 net rating across 172 minutes played this season.
