2025 Fantasy Outlook
After a blockbuster mid-season trade sent Doncic to Los Angeles in exchange for Anthony Davis, the new-look Lakers took some time to find their groove. They eventually started to click and made it through the Play-In Tournament, but couldn't pull off an upset against the Timberwolves in the first round. Doncic's first action in Purple and Gold was limited, and the production was a bit strange. When comparing his regular-season action with the Mavericks (22 games) and Lakers (28) last season, Doncic had a lower field-goal percentage but a higher three-point percentage with his new team. He also had more free-throw attempts and shot a higher percentage from the charity stripe. However, he turned the ball over more. The overall production in 2024-25 was still gaudy in relation to the rest of the league, but it was a significant drop compared to his final full year in Dallas, when he averaged 33.9 points, 9.8 assists and 9.2 rebounds in 2023-24. Doncic, Austin Reaves and newcomers Deandre Ayton and Marcus Smart are the core players under contract through the next two years, while LeBron James will be operating on an expiring deal after picking up his $52.6 million player option for 2025-26. The front office is clearly pushing all of their chips into the middle to fit Doncic's timeline, and he's expected to be the franchise's future, though James' presence likely caps Doncic's fantasy upside. Surprisingly, Doncic has finished inside the top five in eight-category leagues only once in his seven-year career, and last season was the first time he failed to crack the top 15 since his rookie campaign. Set for larger role
Doncic (hamstring) is positioned to take on an even larger offensive role after LeBron James' departure from Los Angeles, Dan Woike of The Athletic opines.
ANALYSIS
The additions of Quentin Grimes, Walker Kessler and Sandro Mamukelashvili should give the Lakers more shooting, defense and frontcourt balance, but none of the newcomers will replace James' playmaking responsibilities. Doncic should remain the clear engine of the Lakers' offense entering 2026-27, with his usage and assist opportunities likely staying near elite levels.

The 25-year-old is coming off his first NBA Finals appearance, losing to the Celtics. Even in the regular season, Doncic had his best season to date, finishing third in MVP voting. He led the NBA with 33.9 points per game, doing so on efficient 49/38/79 percent shooting, even posting a 73-point performance against the Hawks. He also led the league in usage rate (36%) for the third time in four seasons. Close to averaging a triple-double, Doncic also racked up 9.8 assists, 9.2 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game. Few players have as safe of a floor as Doncic, and that shouldn't change in 2024-25. The team will look a bit different this season, with Klay Thompson added to the mix among a full season of trade-deadline acquisitions P.J. Washington and Daniel Gafford. But nothing that Dallas has done in the offseason suggests Doncic will take any step back in production, and he's actually still young enough to make strides in his game. Ultimately, he's a clear first-round fantasy selection worthy of being selected in the top five of nearly every league.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Approving recent roster moves
Doncic is believed to be on board with the Lakers' recent moves in free agency, according to Dan Woike of The Athletic.
ANALYSIS
According to Woike, Doncic is "excited" about the Lakers' signings, as the team re-signed Austin Reaves and added an elite rim protector in Walker Kessler. Even though Kessler was limited to just five regular-season appearances in 2025-26 due to a shoulder injury, he could be an excellent pick-and-roll partner for Doncic. Woike also pointed out that the Lakers have been in constant communication with Doncic during the offseason, and it wouldn't be surprising if that continues as the Lakers round out their roster for the 2026-27 campaign.
