Landry Shamet

Landry Michael Shamet was born in Kansas City, Missouri, to Melanie Shamet in 1997. His mother was a volleyball player at Boise State University. Shamet attended Park Hill High School in Kansas City, where he was coached by David Garrison. Shamet's uncle, Tyler, played basketball at Park Hill prior to Landry and became an important role model in his life. In 2019, Shamet launched the Landry Shamet Basketball Camp. Throughout his three seasons with Wichita State, Shamet had to deal with a variety of foot issues. He played in just three games during the 2015-16 season before he was sidelined with an injury. He returned in 2016-17 as a redshirt freshman and paced the Shockers with 11.4 points and 3.3 assists. Shamet helped the team win 15 straight games, including sweeping through the MVC Tournament. He scored 20 points in the last game of the season, a loss in the second round of the NCAA Tournament against Kentucky. The 6-foot-4 guard was named MVC Freshman of the Year. Shamet had surgery to fix a stress fracture in his foot after the season. In his sophomore campaign, the guard improved his efficiency despite greater volume. He averaged 14.9 points and 5.2 assists as the team moved to the American Athletic Conference. Shamet had a pair of double-doubles, including a 20-point, 10-assist performance against SMU. He declared for the 2018 NBA Draft after the NCAA Tournament and was selected with the 26th pick by the Philadelphia 76ers.
