Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary

Kira Lewis Jr. was born Apr. 6, 2001 to Kira Sr. and Natasha Lewis. He has two sisters, Nakerra and Nesha. Lewis played basketball for Hazel Green High School in Hazel Green, Alabama for three seasons. As a senior, Lewis averaged 28.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 3.9 steals per game, leading his team to the Alabama Class 6A semifinals. He was a finalist for Alabama Mr. Basketball. Lewis was originally in the 2019 class but graduated early and reclassified to 2018. He committed to Alabama for college and made the SEC All-Freshman Team in 2018-19. After his freshman season, he helped lead Team USA to a gold medal at the 2019 FIBA Men's Basketball U-19 World Cup. In his second season at Alabama, Lewis earned First-team All-SEC honors and then declared for the 2020 NBA Draft. Lewis studied consumer science while at Alabama. Fans can follow the guard on Twitter @kiralewisjr. Lewis graduated early from high school and began his first of two seasons at Alabama at the age of just 17, making him one of the youngest players in NCAA Division I basketball history. Even more impressive is that he started all 34 games for the Crimson Tide, scoring a career high of 24 points twice -- Nov. 18 against Wichita State and Feb. 6 against Georgia. He finished that season with averages of 13.5 points, 2.9 assists and 2.6 rebounds, earning a spot on the SEC All-Freshman team. Lewis continued to progress in his sophomore year, improving statistically across the board, particularly in the scoring department. Lewis finished the year averaging 18.5 PPG, which was good for fifth in the SEC. He also led the conference with 206 field goals made, as well as minutes per game (37.6). Lewis had his best scoring game of the season Feb. 8 against Georgia, pouring in 37 points in an OT victory. The very next game, Feb. 12 against Auburn, he recorded a triple-double with 10 points and season highs in rebounds (10) and assists (13). Lewis was awarded first-team All-SEC honors and turned pro at the end of the year.

Scores 13 points in Summer League
GWisconsin Herd   G League (Bucks)
July 5, 2026
Lewis finished with 13 points (4-8 FG, 3-4 3Pt, 1-1 FT), three rebounds and four assists over 21 minutes in Sunday's 89-69 California Classic Summer League loss to Brooklyn.
ANALYSIS
Lewis scored 14 points as a starter in Saturday's 97-83 win over Warriors Blue. He came off the bench against the Nets, though he still finished second on the team in scoring behind Brandon Boston. Lewis, the No. 13 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, spent most of his career in New Orleans before making stops in Toronto and Utah. In 131 regular-season games, the 25-year-old has averaged 5.2 points, 1.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 0.1 blocks and 0.5 steals over 13.3 minutes per contest. Lewis has experience, so there's a chance he will get an opportunity to suit up again for an NBA club. Still, he has a way to go before earning meaningful minutes in any rotation.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2021
2020
The 2020 first-round selection's season was nothing too spectacular, but Lewis did show real signs of being a legitimate NBA talent. The Alabama product averaged 6.4 points, 1.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game in 16.7 minutes. Lewis was playing behind Lonzo Ball in the offense, but even with Ball going to Chicago, there will still be competition for playing time this season. The team sign-and-traded for Devonte' Graham and also acquired veteran point guard Tomas Satoransky. However, it seems pretty safe that the Pelicans will opt to play Lewis more than he did in his rookie season as he continues his development. To take the next step as a player Lewis will need to improve on his 33.3 percent mark from three and become a better playmaker. However, his raw athletic ability should come to his favor as he enters Year 2. The 6-foot-1 speedster will look to be more involved in the offense this season, but the team's new look point guard situation still may hamper his fantasy impact for the 2020-21 season.
The 19-year-old had an impressive sophomore season at Alabama, averaging 18.5 points, 5.2 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.8 three-pointers with 45.9/80.2/36.6 shooting splits. According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Pelicans intend to keep Lewis, which is notable given the plethora of established point guards (Lonzo Ball, Eric Bledsoe and George Hill) already on the roster. Lewis will likely also have to compete with Nikeil Alexander-Walker for minutes. As a result, fantasy managers should only target Lewis in extremely deep leagues, as the rookie might not be able to reach the 20-minute mark in average run for his debut campaign.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Pels might trade him
GWisconsin Herd   G League (Bucks)
July 6, 2023
The Pelicans are gauging the trade market for Lewis, according to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports.
ANALYSIS
The Pelicans keep trying to find ways to improve the roster and are looking to get something out of a potential Lewis move. The former Alabama standout has struggled to leave his mark in the NBA and is entering the final year of his rookie-scale contract after averaging 4.6 points with 1.3 rebounds per game across 25 outings last season. His trade market is expected to be scarce at best.
