Johnson made a noticeable leap in the 2024-25 regular season, appearing in 79 games and averaging 10.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.4 blocks in 24.4 minutes per game, though his shooting was a modest 38.9 percent from the field. His per-36-minute production was especially intriguing, translating to 15.7 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.5 steals, highlighting his activity and energy on both ends. The Nets demonstrated confidence in his upside by exercising his team option, keeping him under contract with partial guarantees into the 2025-26 season. The bad news is that the logjam on the wings is a mess right now. Cam Thomas signed his qualifying offer to return to the team, and the Nets added Terance Mann from the Hawks. Johnson figures to be in the rotation, but he's penciled in as Thomas' backup at shooting guard heading into training camp. As long as he earns consistent rotation minutes, Johnson offers upside in counting stats, particularly points, steals, and peripheral contributions. Signed a one-year, $2.16 million contract with the Nets in July of 2024. Nets exercised $2.35 million team option for 2025-26 in June of 2025. Waived by the Nets in September of 2025.

Johnson had his best offensive performance of the season with high activity from the field and from the charity stripe during the loss. The 43 points set a career best for Johnson and more than doubled his previous season-high count of 21. He has seen increased playing time off the bench lately and could push for a bigger role in the final stretch of the campaign.

Johnson has yet to establish himself as a viable commodity in the NBA, having spent two seasons playing limited minutes in Portland. Unfortunately, he suffered a dislocated finger in the opening game of the 2023 Summer League, prematurely ending his tournament. Johnson was then traded to the Suns this offseason as part of a blockbuster deal that landed Damian Lillard in Milwaukee. Johnson is still a raw prospect and likely won't handle a significant role to start 2023-24.
