Bismack Biyombo

Bismack Biyombo Sumba was born in 1992 in Lubumbashi, Congo to Francois Biyombo and Francoise Ngoie. After being discovered in a youth tournament at 16, Biyombo went to Spain in 2009 and played in the fourth division with Fuenlabrada-Getafe Madrid. Later that year, he moved up a division, joining CB Illescas until 2011 when he signed with Fuenlabrada of the elite ACB League. That summer, Biyombo excelled at the Nike Hoop Summit in Portland, Oregon by notching a triple-double as a member of the World Select Team. While it might unfair to say that one game changed Biyombo's basketball prospects, that is likely what happened. The shot-swatting big man recorded the first triple-double in the history of the Nike Hoop Summit with 12 points, 11 rebounds and 10 blocks for the World Select Team in 2011. Prior to that performance, the 6-foot-9 forward had played with Fuenlabrada-Getafe Madrid of the Liga EBA before moving to CB Illescas of the LEB Silver League. He did not spend a full season with Illescas before moving to the ACB league and Baloncesto Fuenlabrada. In 14 games, he averaged 6.4 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.3 blocks in 17.1 minutes. The performance in the Nike Hoop Summit buoyed his stock and Biyombo made himself available for the 2011 NBA Draft. Biyombo was drafted seventh overall by the Sacramento Kings but his rights were later traded to the Charlotte Bobcats in a draft night trade.
