2026 Fantasy Outlook
Gomez has a good slider, but he struggled to a 5.17 ERA and 1.39 WHIP in 62.2 innings as a swingman split between three different teams last season. The right-hander ended up appearing in 12 contests (including nine starts) for Chicago, posting a 4.84 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 47:16 K:BB over 48.1 innings. He doesn't appear to be a favorite to open the year in the rotation. Gomez mostly worked as a starter during his time in the minors, but Tampa Bay may elect to use him out of the bullpen. Third save of season
Gomez earned his third save of the season in Tuesday's 5-3 extra-innings win over the White Sox. He allowed a run and struck out one in one inning of work.
Analysis
Gomez entered the game in the 11th inning when the Twins had a three-run lead. Even though he allowed a run when an RBI single from Chase Meidroth scored Munetaka Murakami, he managed to close the door on the win while tossing 11 of his 18 pitches for strikes. Gomez has gone 3-for-3 in save chances this season. Gomez remains a reliable arm in the late-inning mix and owns a 1.04 ERA and 0.81 WHIP across 10 appearances (8.2 innings) in May.

Chance to join rotation?
Gomez could be a rotation candidate for the Yankees after Clarke Schmidt was placed on the 15-day injured list Thursday with a lat strain.
Analysis
Gomez was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday after making his season debut for the Yankees two days earlier, but the big club now has an opening in the rotation. The 24-year-old righty has worked as a starter at Triple-A this season and has a 3.62 ERA across 27.1 innings, so he should be in the mix to fill in for Schmidt.
