2026 Fantasy Outlook
Fernandez's minor league numbers the past two seasons hide the fact he has some of the best raw power in the minor leagues. Scouts have slapped 60 to 70 grade labels on his raw poer, but you would never know it statistically scouting his player page. He hit 25 homers in 2023 between High-A and Double-A ball, but has hit 25 homers in the minors of the next two seasons combined. He did reach the big league club last season and flashed some of that bat speed while bombing a few homers around plenty of strikeouts. He also shows a tremendous throwing arm from right field despite a severe lack of range as a slow-footed large man-child. He is just 23 years old and still has a minor league option available. Many hairs have been lost trying to figure out what the Rockies will do on an annual basis, but if this club could give Michael Toglia as much time as it did last season despite his struggles, certainly they can reward Fernandez with plate appearances if he shows something in Talking Stick in camp or down in Triple-A early in the season. A very late dart throw for power upside in deeper NL-Only leagues for sure. Read Past Outlooks

Designated for assignment
OFColorado Rockies  AAA
January 28, 2026
The Rockies designated Fernandez for assignment Wednesday, Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com reports.
Analysis
Fernandez struggled in his first stint in the majors in 2025, slashing .225/.265/.348 with four home runs and a 29.9 percent strikeout rate over 52 games. It's still a surprise the Rockies are exposing him to waivers, given that he just turned 23 earlier this month and was considered a top-100 prospect a couple years ago. There's a good chance Fernandez -- who hit .284/.347/.502 with 13 long balls in 64 contests at Triple-A Albuquerque in 2025 -- gets claimed by another team.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
If Fernandez had never been promoted to Double-A last year, his perceived dynasty value would probably be higher. However, the power-hitting outfielder hit .206 with a 32.9 K% in 56 Double-A games as a 20-year-old, which raises obvious concerns about his hit tool. Prior to the aggressive promotion, Fernandez slashed .319/.354/.605 with 17 home runs, a 5.2 percent walk rate and a 17.9 percent strikeout rate in 58 games while playing half his games in the hitter-friendly park at High-A Spokane. The lefty-hitting Cuban has a very high four-category ceiling, thanks to his huge power and the potential to call Coors Field home. If he shows better bat-to-ball skill in the upper levels during his age-21 season, that would reduce concerns about how the bat will play at the highest level, given his youth and power. Fernandez has a classic right-field slugger profile, as he also has a cannon of an arm.
Fernandez logged a .323/.378/.590 slash line with 15 home runs and a 19.4 K% over his final 251 at-bats at Single-A, keeping the dream alive of a lefty-hitting 30-plus homer right fielder who gets to call Coors Field home. He will go from one hitter-friendly environment (Fresno) to another (Spokane) for his age-20 season, where the key will be to chase fewer pitches out of the strike zone. The Cuban outfielder has significant J-2 pedigree from 2019 and made an impressive jump from the Dominican Summer League in 2021 to full-season ball, so it's possible he exceeds expectations again and steadily climbs rankings.
