2023 Fantasy Outlook
They are 10 years apart in age, but Flores is the younger brother of Giants infielder Wilmer Flores. The Tigers did well to sign the younger Flores as an undrafted free agent after the five-round 2020 draft. The 6-foot-4 right-handed starter had a solid debut in 2021, but he truly broke out in 2022, dominating in 19.2 innings at High-A (1.83 ERA, 0.81 WHIP, 35 strikeouts) before making 19 starts at Double-A as a 21-year-old. Flores' 45.5 K% at High-A is an outlier, but he was deservingly stingy against more advanced hitters at Double-A, logging a 1.05 WHIP, 21.4 K-BB% and 3.50 FIP. He has a three-pitch mix (sinker, cutter, curveball) that is designed to generate weak contact and miss bats. The old Tigers regime didn't have much developmental success, but Flores is on track to be an innings-eating No. 4 starter with a favorable home park, which should equate to some nice streaming matchups at the very least.
