MacIver looks to be the Athletics' top option at catcher after Shea Langeliers was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday due to a left oblique strain.
Analysis
MacIver was promoted from Triple-A Las Vegas to the majors May 23 and made his first major-league start against the Phillies two days later. He's made three starts since his promotion, but with Langeliers potentially facing a lengthy stint on the IL, MacIver should get plenty of work as the A's top catcher while Jhonny Pereda serves as the backup. Prior to his call-up, MacIver had a blistering .393/.472/.557 slash line with two steals, two home runs and 30 RBI across 142 plate appearances in Triple-A.
