June 17, 2026
The Mariners transferred Wilson (thumb) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Tuesday.
Analysis
Wilson has been on the shelf since May 2 due to a fractured left thumb, but he appeared to be closing in on a return after kicking off a rehab assignment earlier this month and going 6-for-16 with two doubles, three walks and a stolen base in five games between High-A Everett and Triple-A Tacoma. He hasn't played since Friday, however, and was pulled off his assignment with Tacoma after experiencing pain in his finger, per MLB.com. He's set to meet with a specialist in the coming days before a decision is made regarding whether he'll require season-ending surgery to address the injury. Even if Wilson avoids a procedure and is able to treat the injury with rest and rehab, he won't be eligible to return to action for the Mariners until June 29 after being shifted to the 60-day IL.

* Exit Velocity and Barrels/PA % are benchmarked against 2019 data (min 400 PA) and Hard Hit Rate is benchmarked against last season's data (min 400 PA). See here for more exit velocity/barrels stats plus an explanation of current limitations with that data set.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2021
2020
The Giants, who were high on Wilson pre-draft in 2019, essentially bought him from the Angels for $12.7 million last offseason by taking on the final year of Zack Cozart's contract in the deal. He spent his first year in his new organization at the alternate training site and the fall instructional league. Wilson came out of North Carolina State known as a bat-first middle infielder who could hit for average and power but might have to move off shortstop, which remains an apt description. He didn't receive much pro instruction after getting drafted by the Angels, but the Giants quickly got to work developmentally after acquiring him. Adjusting Wilson's launch angle was the first order of business, as he logged a 54.7 GB% in the Pioneer League. Hitting lasers is still his bread and butter, but he has enough raw power to the pull side to hit 20-plus home runs some day to go with a potentially plus hit tool.
Wilson, the No. 15 overall pick, had a surprisingly middling debut (101 wRC+) in the hitter-friendly Pioneer League. He was then attached in an offseason deal to get the Giants to take the final year of Zack Cozart's contract. Seen as a bat-first shortstop who would inevitably end up at second base, Wilson is the type of hitter who should have laid waste to rookie-level pitching before earning a bump to Low-A. He hit .346/.435/.682 with 16 home runs and a 41:32 K:BB in 53 games as a junior at North Carolina State, and we don't have to look further than Alec Bohm in 2018 to find a high-end college hitter who struggled in his debut but followed it up with an excellent first full season. Wilson won't steal many bases and he will need to really hit to profile as an everyday player, but that is still a potential outcome. His underwhelming debut provides a nice buy-low opportunity in first-year-player drafts.
