2024 Fantasy Outlook
Vest battled mechanical issues last spring and didn't break camp with the Tigers, but was recalled in late-April to fill a multi-inning relief role. The 28-year-old righty seemingly fixed what he was struggling with because he posted a 2.98 ERA (3.11 xERA), 1.10 WHIP and 56:13 K:BB ratio over 48.1 innings. A leg strain sidelined the Texas native for a month-and-a-half during the summer, but he returned in mid-August and closed out the season strong. He posted a 1.32 ERA, 0.51 WHIP and 20:1 K:BB over the final month (13.2 innings) and finished the campaign with two saves and 11 holds. Vest's flexibility to work as an opener, multi-inning reliever or setup man should afford him a spot in the Tigers' 2024 bullpen, especially after recording above-average strikeout and walk rates last year. Earns rare save Wednesday
Vest retired the final two batters of Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Royals, including one by strikeout, to record the save.
ANALYSIS
This was Vest's first save since Aug. 11 and just his second of the season, but it was a critical one, as the Tigers moved within a half game of a playoff spot with a big win against a division rival. The righty reliever was needed in the spot because regular closer Jason Foley pitched each of the last three days. Vest is behind Foley and Tyler Holton in the bullpen pecking order for Detroit, though he's been a steady presence with a 3.02 ERA this year across 65.2 innings of relief.

Recent RotoWire Articles Featuring Will Vest See More
The NFBC's Postseason Hold'em contest kicks off at the start of the Division Series, and its scoring system leads to some unusual rankings.
2023 Fantasy Outlook
Vest got off to a brilliant start last season, holding a 1.57 ERA and 28:7 K:BB across 23 innings covering his first 20 appearances. He then posted a 5.40 ERA the rest of the way, even earning a trip back to the minors at one point. More consistency will be needed for the 27-year-old to be trusted in high-leverage situations, but a 49.7 percent ground ball rate and a strikeout per inning will play.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Darkhorse to be traded?
Vest could generate significant trade interest if the Tigers are willing to offload him, reports Evan Woodbery of MLive.com.
ANALYSIS
The 29-year-old isn't eligible for free agency until after the 2027 campaign and has been one of Detroit's most reliable relievers over the past two seasons with a 3.02 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 94:25 K:BB across 92.1 innings. That may make the club less likely to trade him, but the Tigers could also look to sell high given the volatile nature of relief pitchers.
