2026 Fantasy Outlook
Mahle was effective when healthy in 2025 but missed nearly three months with a shoulder injury. Following 2023 Tommy John elbow surgery, the right-hander entered 2025 with full health and it showed early. He walked off the mound following his 12th start on May 28 with a 1.64 ERA and just two home runs allowed over 66 innings. Two outings later, Mahle's shoulder barked, and he eventually landed on the 60-day IL with a rotator cuff strain. Mahle finished with a 2.18 ERA (1.13 WHIP), but in addition to a favorable .260 BABIP, any number of estimators suggest luck was on his side. He didn't miss many bats nor put away hitters (19.1 K%, 23.2 Whiff%). Mahle is expected to land with some team, but he'll be five years removed from the career-high 180 IP of 2021; since then, the right-hander has thrown just 245.2 frames over the last four years. Dazzles over 5.1 innings Sunday
Mahle didn't factor into the decision Sunday against the Rays, allowing four hits and one walk with five strikeouts across 5.1 shutout innings.
Analysis
Mahle was in line for the victory before Ryan Walker allowed the tying run to cross in the bottom of the eighth. Sunday was Mahle's second scoreless outing in his last three starts, and all four hits he allowed to Tampa Bay were singles. After posting an ugly 7.23 ERA through his first four starts, Mahle now owns a 5.00 ERA and 34:18 K:BB across 35 innings. The right-hander should make his next start in next weekend's home series against the Pirates.

Mahle needed Tommy John surgery, conducted in May of 2023. He embarked on a rehab assignment in early July. After compiling 18 innings spread across six starts, Mahle was activated in early August. He managed to make three starts, covering 12.2 innings before being shut down by shoulder soreness. Mahle's velocity was down, which is unusual for a Tommy John returnee, but perhaps it was related to his shoulder. The assumption is that Mahle will be healthy in the spring, but until he takes the hill, there is uncertainty. The Rangers are expecting him to be in the rotation, but they'll have to manage his workload. Just 30 years old, there is time for Mahle to enter the fantasy circle of trust, but for now he's a speculative dart, best suited for leagues with a deep reserve.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Nearing deal with Giants
The Giants are closing in on a one-year contract with Mahle, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Analysis
Mahle was limited to only 16 starts this past season with the Rangers due to a shoulder issue, but he managed a 2.18 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 66:29 K:BB over 86.2 innings. The 31-year-old hasn't made 20 starts in the majors since 2022 and his strikeout rate the last two seasons sits at just 18.9 percent, but Mahle would be a fine addition for the Giants on a one-year deal.
