After failing to break camp with the Reds, Gilbert began the year with Triple-A Louisville where he posted surrendered 24 hits and 17 runs in only 11.2 innings. The Phillies figured a guy who threw a no-hitter for the Diamondbacks in 2021 couldn't be that bad, so they acquired him for cash and assigned Gilbert to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The move proved prescient as Gilbert recorded a 2.45 ERA and 1.03 WHIP with 45 strikeouts spanning 33 frames before being called up in August. The visit lasted just a week, though Gilbert spent most of September in the bigs, mostly in mop up duty. The White Sox acquired Gilbert, likely to serve as a swingman. Gilbert exhibits solid control, but he doesn't have the stuff to consistently retire major league hitters.
