Rest-of-Season Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Melton came a long way over the past year, finishing the 2024 season on the injured list at Double-A Erie with a shoulder strain before concluding the 2025 campaign as one of the Tigers' key arms in the postseason. The 25-year-old was unable to replicate his strikeout rate between Double- and Triple-A (32.4 percent) during the regular season in the majors (20 percent), but he offered a glimpse of his upside in three ALDS outings versus the Mariners, during which he fanned eight while yielding one run over eight frames. After bouncing back-and-forth between the bullpen and rotation in 2025, the expectation is that Melton will get a chance in 2026 to be a full-time member of the Tigers' rotation, though they could have workload restrictions in place for the 25-year-old. Picking up another start
Melton is slated to start in Friday's game against the White Sox in Chicago, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Analysis
As expected, Melton will remain in the rotation for at least one more turn after a serviceable showing in his 2026 MLB debut. The right-hander picked up a win Sunday while striking out three batters and limiting Baltimore to one earned run on two hits and three walks over 5.2 innings. Detroit will eventually get some pitching reinforcements with Justin Verlander (hip) and Tarik Skubal (elbow) due back from the IL within the next few weeks, so Melton could be battling Keider Montero for the final spot in the rotation.
