2026 Fantasy Outlook
There were some people who had hopes that Estrada playing in Coors Field would help right everything that had gone wrong for him in his final year with the Giants. The scorecard on that is incomplete, because Estrada played in just 39 games, as he suffered a broken hand in the spring, which was followed by a sprained thumb a month upon his return, and a hamstring issue nicely tied a bow on what was a disappointing season for the infielder. He did reduce his strikeout rate a third conseuctive season back to his better 2022 level, but all that did was push his batting average slightly above the league average. He otherwise offered no fantasy value to those clinging to those hopes, and now he has to hope the Rockies decide to pick up his $7M mutual option to try again in the comforts of Coors. The Rockies are crazy enough to do it, but if they don't, Estrada is likely limited to a MILB deal with an invite to camp for a club looking for a utility infielder who can still play defense. Estrada signed a contract with Mexican League club Saraperos de Saltillo on April 20.
Analysis
After being cut loose by the Orioles shortly before Opening Day, Estrada couldn't land a major-league deal with another team and has chosen to continue his career south of the border. The 30-year-old previously spent the 2025 campaign with the Rockies, slashing .253/.285/.370 with three home runs and one stolen base over 165 plate appearances.

2017
Estrada was a key piece of San Francisco's infield in 2022 and 2023, but he had a .590 OPS in 96 games last season before being outrighted off the MLB roster in late August. The veteran infielder was able to secure a one-year contract with the Rockies for 2025, and he's expected to serve as their primary second baseman. Estrada had a .266/.319/.408 slash line during those two productive years with the Giants, and he totaled 28 homers, 44 stolen bases, 111 RBI and 134 runs across the two seasons. His career strikeout and walk rates (20.1 percent and 4.6 percent, respectively) illustrate his strong contact skills, and playing half his games at Coors Field could provide a boost to his offensive outlook. Estrada could have some fantasy viability if he's able to recapture that prior form, but the poor production in 2024 isn't guaranteed to remain in the rearview mirror.
Estrada followed up his breakout 2022 season with another impressive campaign, though it was truncated by a broken left hand. He returned to slash just .268/.298/.390 in his final 51 games (.272/.327/.434 before the injury). Still, despite playing in 20 fewer games, Estrada matched his homer total and exceeded his stolen-base total from the year prior. His appeal takes a hit in OBP leagues since Estrada owns a career 5.1 BB%, but he's a plus defender and carries dual eligibility into the 2024 season (second base, shortstop). While Estrada's batted-ball numbers do little to excite, he's now turned in three straight years of above-average offensive production. With better luck on the health front, Estrada could reach 600 plate appearances for the first time in his career as an everyday presence in the Giants' middle infield.
Estrada came into the season just hoping to make the roster and finished the season tied for 11th in steals while also hitting 14 homers. He was one of 51 players to pull such a double-double in 2022 and was arguably the most surprising one given he had never had a double-digit homer total at any stop of his professional career and had not swiped double-digit bases since the 2016 season. Injuries on the roster put Estrada at three different infield positions and he fell a game short qualifying as an outfielder for the draft. The Giants are already looking at him to be that Ben Zobrist-like player for 2023 now that he has shown can do more than just hold down the end of the bench. That versatility will help prop up his fantasy value as the overall profile still looks rather fringy despite the surprising numbers this past season.
With Tommy La Stella (Achilles surgery) still on the mend to open 2022, Estrada has a chance to see regular playing time early in the season. The 26-year-old middle infielder won the starting job at second base over Mauricio Dubon in spring training, though it's likely to just be a temporary everyday role. Estrada was solid with a .273/.333/.479 slash line in 132 plate appearances last season at the major-league level. He also tore up Triple-A with a .333/.399/.538 line in 233 plate appearances with Sacramento. The playing time should be there even when the Giants are fully healthy -- manager Gabe Kapler often utilizes platoons, and Estrada's ability to move around the infield should open up more opportunities for him, though the right-handed hitter will likely be on the short side of a timeshare if he ends up in one.
A diminutive middle infielder from Venezuela, Estrada held his own in his first year of full-season ball. Estrada slashed .290/.346/.391 in 118 games between Low-A and High-A. The 20-year-old showed some surprising pop despite standing at just 5-foot-10, 155 pounds, cranking eight home runs and driving in 49 runs. Home run power is not expected to be a consistent part of his offensive skill set, though. Estrada's above-average speed was on display, as he swiped 18 bases in 2016. A contact hitter, Estrada may be hurt by the bevy of shortstops and second basemen ahead of him in the Yankees' system, although he has shown the ability to play multiple positions on the diamond. He will likely return to High-A to begin the 2017 season.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Potential target for Rockies
2BFree Agent  F
December 6, 2024
Estrada could be a name to watch in the Rockies' pursuit of a second baseman, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Analysis
The Rockies are a bit thin at the keystone entering 2025 after parting ways with Brendan Rodgers earlier in the offseason. Estrada slashed just .217/.247/.343 in 96 games last season while battling multiple injuries, which could allow Colorado to bring him in on a relatively cheap deal. Despite his struggles in 2024, the 28-year-old posted a .266/.320/.416 line over the prior three seasons for San Francisco.
