Four hits for Fireflies
SSNew York Mets  AA
July 6, 2019
Newton went 4-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and four RBI for Low-A Columbia on Friday.
ANALYSIS
The 20-year-old has appeared overmatched for most of the season, slashing .163/.242/.209 with a massive 40.0 percent strikeout rate over his prior 24 games, but Newton was able to do some damage Friday. His athleticism and power potential still give him upside, but the Mets' No. 8 fantasy prospect will have to solve his contact issues if he's ever going to pan out.

2019 Fantasy Outlook
If Newton's strikeout rate in the Appalachian League (31.6 K%) had been in line with his mark across two seasons in the Dominican Summer League (19.7 K%), he would be one of the most exciting infield prospects in the minors. An athletic, 19-year-old switch hitter with a classic power hitter's frame (6-foot-4, 180 pounds) and elite bat speed, Newton is only scratching the surface of his massive homer potential. His 17.3 BB% ranked third in the Appy League and his 14.0% swinging-strike rate was not unreasonable given his age and raw power, so it's a matter of him being overly patient, rather than a hitter flailing at every good breaking ball he sees. His 26.0% line-drive rate and ability to use the whole field (42.4 Pull%) give him a chance to hit for a relatively high batting average if he can cut down on the strikeouts. Born in the Netherlands before moving to Curacao, Newton has the tools to break out as one of the top minor-league sluggers in his full-season debut.
