2026 Fantasy Outlook
Nobody missed Tropicana Field more than Baz, as he was dreadful pitching in Steinbrenner Field. Baz pitched to a 5.90 ERA and 1.46 at home, where he also allowed 18 of his 26 home runs on the season, undoing any good his 16.9 K-BB percentage in those start did. He toiled to a more serviceable 3.86 ERA and 1.21 WHIP on the road despite a lower K-BB percentage of 14.6. Baz worked to drop his ineffective slider for a cutter, but that is a work in progress. That pitch had a .337 average against, while his four-seamer, curve and change-up were all under .245. Baz's ultimate issue is righties, as 17 of his 26 homers came against righties despite his fastball, curve and cutter all having good indicators. His command waivers in starts, and things quickly fell apart for him in some starts, including the one where he allowed five homers to the Yankees in Steinbrenner in late August. Baz has the pieces for success if he can ever find some consistency with his command. After all, he had 13 outings where he allowed two or fewer earned runs and another three with 10+ strikeouts in 2025. After his trade to the Orioles, he'll still benefit from a move from a hitter-friendly park to Camden Yards. Read Past Outlooks
Dazzles against former team
Baz (2-5) picked up the win Tuesday, allowing one run on seven hits and two walks over seven innings in a 6-1 victory over the Rays. He struck out nine.
Analysis
The nine Ks were a season high for the right-hander, who racked up 31 called or swinging strikes among his 99 pitches (69 total strikes). Baz has reeled off three straight quality starts, his first ones in a Baltimore uniform, and over that stretch he's delivered a 2.25 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 19:8 K:BB over 20 innings as he shows signs of turning his season around. He'll look to stay locked in for his next start, which is scheduled to come on the road early next week in Boston.

While it seems as if Baz is a major-league vet getting ready for free agency, the fact remains he has pitched fewer than 120 innings at the big-league level and is 7-5 with a 3.38 ERA over 23 career starts. Baz missed all of 2023 recovering from Tommy John surgery and worked nearly 40 innings in Triple-A trying to regain his velocity before finally returning to the major-league roster in early July. Baz never did fully regain his velocity as his average fastball was roughly half a click below where things were in 2022, but his other pitches performed extremely well as the league hit below .170 off all his non-fastball offerings. It was also encouraging to see Baz work six or more innings in six of his final eight starts as he got closer to the full two-year mark from his surgery and his command improved. Baz should be all systems go for 2025, but this is still a pitcher whose 108.2 innings last year between Durham and Tampa Bay is a career high.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could be bound for Baltimore
The Orioles and Rays are in serious talks about a trade that would send Baz to Baltimore, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
Analysis
The Rays would receive prospects in return. Baz finished the 2025 campaign with a 4.87 ERA and 176:64 K:BB across 166.1 innings covering 31 starts, though George M. Steinbrenner Field was partly to blame for his bloated ERA since he had a 5.90 ERA at the Rays' temporary home. If the deal goes through, Baz would receive a fresh start in Baltimore.
