2023 Fantasy Outlook
Zavala lost his spot on the White Sox's Opening Day roster to begin 2022, but he rejoined the big club in June and appeared in a career-high 61 games. He had a .270/.347/.382 slash line with a 31.2 percent strikeout rate, and he saw some run as Chicago's primary backstop while Yasmani Grandal battled injuries. The strikeout rate has been an issue while Zavala came up through the minors, but it's his defensive ability that's his main draw. He should open 2023 in a backup role but shouldn't be expected to replicate his offensive numbers from last season.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Joining big-league roster?
Zavala is in the Mariners' clubhouse ahead of Tuesday's game against the Padres, reports Shannon Drayer of SeattleSports.com.
ANALYSIS
Luis Castillo is headed to the injured list due to a hamstring injury, though it's unclear if Zavala is being added to the MLB roster in a corresponding move. The 31-year-old backstop could be with the big club as a member of the taxi squad. Even if he is added to the active roster, Zavala isn't likely to see consistent playing time.
