2026 Fantasy Outlook
Gipson-Long had much of 2023 and virtually all of 2024 wiped out due to Tommy John and hip surgeries. He moved past those issues in 2025 but had his season interrupted on two occasions by neck problems. When on the bump, Gipson-Long's ERA was a bloated 7.18 thanks in large part to eight home runs served up over 31.1 innings. He had a more promising 26:6 K:BB, though, and his K:BB in 32.2 frames with Triple-A Toledo was 35:8. Gipson-Long's velocity was down a bit from the last time we saw him in 2023, and he already wasn't a hard thrower. However, the right-hander gets whiffs with both his slider and changeup, and he can fill up the strike zone. The 28-year-old could surprise if he gets an opportunity, but he's a bit buried on the Tigers' rotation depth chart. Read Past Outlooks
Lands on injured list
The Tigers placed Gipson-Long (oblique) on the 15-day injured list Wednesday.
Analysis
The right-hander sustained the injury during the offseason and was working through his rehab program during spring training. Gipson-Long was throwing bullpen sessions late in camp and will likely need a rehab assignment before being cleared for his season debut with Detroit.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2025
2024
Gipson-Long suffered a groin strain at the beginning of spring training and then got Tommy John surgery in April. Then in early July, he needed hip surgery, so seemingly everything that could go Wong, did for the 26-year-old righty. It was the opposite in 2023, when Gipson-Long emerged from obscurity to shine in a brief taste of the big leagues. He posted a 2.70 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 26 strikeouts across 20 innings of work in four starts with the big club to close 2023. The success wasn't expected, as he posted just a 5.45 ERA across 34.2 innings with Triple-A Toledo before his promotion, and Gipson-Long didn't have much prospect pedigree. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound hurler leans heavily on his four-seam and two-seam fastballs, which sat in the 92-94 mph range prior to his surgery. He could be ready to for a rehab assignment in the minors early this season before potentially rejoining the big-league rotation in June or July, if all goes well.
