2026 Fantasy Outlook
Sloan, a 6-foot-5 righty the Mariners gave $3 million to out of high school in 2024, doesn't have any obvious weaknesses after reaching High-A at the end of his age-19 season. Of course, the same thing could have been said at certain points about Andrew Painter, Jackson Jobe, Forrest Whitley, Dylan Bundy, etc... Prep righties can break our hearts for reasons that are seemingly outside of everyone's control. In his debut season, Sloan showed three plus pitches, ideal size, and an enviable combination of strikeout upside (27.0 K%) and the ability to generate weak contact (50.0 GB%). He closed the year with 13 strikeouts and zero walks in 11.1 innings across four starts at High-A. Health permitting, Sloan and his mid-90s fastball (touches 98 mph), upper-80s slider and low-90s changeup should give Double-A hitters fits this summer, and he could even reach Triple-A at some point in his age-20 season. History has taught us that there's an ever-present risk associated with hard-throwing righties at this stage of their development, but if Sloan continues on his current trajectory, he could finish 2026 as the game's No. 1 pitching prospect. Opening age-20 season at Double-A
Sloan is opening the season with Double-A Arkansas, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.
Analysis
Few prospects generated more rave reviews this spring than Sloan, whose already plus fastball jumped a couple ticks and now sits around 97 mph. Sloan, who could be the game's top pitching prospect in a couple months, only made three starts at High-A last year, so this is a big vote of confidence. Per the report, the initial plan was to assign Sloan to High-A Everett, but the calculus changed after he made such a strong impression this spring. The less volatile weather conditions in Arkansas compared to the Pacific Northwest in April also factored into the decision. What makes the assignment even more notable is that the Mariners have a track record of jumping their best pitching prospects from Double-A to the majors, bypassing the Pacific Coast League. Kade Anderson, the Mariners' other premium pitching prospect, is also opening the year at Double-A.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Rising through prospect ranks
Sloan was a breakout prospect in the Mariners organization during the 2025 season, according to Jonathan Mayo, Jim Callis and Sam Dykstra of MLB.com.
Analysis
Sloan was a second-round pick in the 2024 MLB Draft, but he handled things pretty well in his first pro season. He posted a 3.44 ERA and an impressive 5.2 K/BB in the hitter-friendly California League, which was enough to earn a promotion to High-A late in the year. He should continue to rise up the minor-league ranks in 2026 and should also continue to move higher up in the prospect lists.
