Rest-of-Season Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Tellez has been a guarantee to hit mid-teen homers while facing as many righties as possible. The 2022 season is a lot further in the rear view mirror than it appears as Tellez has hit just 8 more homers over the past three seasons than he did in the entirety of that 2022 season with Milwaukee. Tellez split time with the Mariners and Rangers last season and looked more like himself with the Rangers (.259/.315/.457) than he did with Seattle (.208/.249/.434.) Tellez is now a free agent is likely going to land a new contract with a non-contending club who is looking for some power upside in a platoon situation at DH or first base. Tellez remains a mono-league roster option that is more usable in daily moves than weekly moves. Read Past Outlooks
Back in big leagues with Atlanta
Atlanta selected Tellez's contract from Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday.
Analysis
Atlanta placed star outfielder Ronald Acuna (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list, and as a result Tellez, an eight-year big-league veteran, will reach the majors for the first time in 2026. Though the 31-year-old Tellez showed during his time at Gwinnett that he can still hit for power (.483 slugging percentage) and get on base at a steady clip, he likely won't have a path to regular playing time while he's up with Atlanta. Unless Atlanta shows a willingness to use Dominic Smith in the corner outfield while Acuna is on the shelf, Tellez will likely be limited to a pinch-hitting role while Smith and Matt Olson are ahead of him on the depth chart at designated hitter and first base, respectively.

Tellez batted .219 with 35 home runs for the Brewers in 2022, but he's been unable to replicate that power the past two seasons. He latched on with the Pirates for 2024 and showed decent contact skills with a .243 average and 21.1 percent strikeout rate, but his hard-hit rate dropped to a career-worst 36.5 percent. Tellez's .680 OPS over the last two years will likely limit his options this winter, especially given his defensive deficiencies at first base.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Trade interest from Red Sox
Tellez could be a trade target for Boston this summer with Triston Casas out for the season after knee surgery, reports Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald.
Analysis
The Red Sox need a serious boost at first base, and Tellez could be expendable for the Mariners after signing a minor-league contract in February. The veteran slugger is batting just .214 this season but has provided some pop with eight homers in 128 plate appearances. Seattle currently leads the AL West with a 30-24 record however, so the club could elect to retain Tellez if it maintains strong positioning for the playoffs.
