2026 Fantasy Outlook
Blanco experienced a breakout with the Astros in 2024 and was just starting to get on a roll in 2025 before undergoing internal brace and flexor tendon surgery on his pitching arm in early June. The operation will sideline the 32-year-old for most, if not all, of the 2026 campaign, leaving him as an easy pass in redraft leagues. Blanco was due for some level of ERA regression in 2025 after a .220 BABIP in 2024, and while his ERA did indeed jump from 2.80 to 4.10, his xERA dropped from 3.94 to 3.19. The right-hander's control and home run issues leave him vulnerable, but the opposition has hit only .195/.276/.360 off him the last two years because he induces a lot of weak contact. Houston should find a spot for him in its rotation when health allows. Read Past Outlooks
Hits 60 pitches in rehab start
Blanco (elbow) struck out four and allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits and one walk across 4.1 innings Wednesday in a rehab start with Double-A Corpus Christi.
Analysis
Blanco pushed his pitch count up to 60 (45 strikes) in his third rehab start as he works his way back from the Tommy John surgery with an internal brace that he underwent last June. The right-hander will likely need to get stretched out to around 70-to-80 pitches before becoming a viable option for the Houston rotation, likely at some point shortly after the All-Star break. Before going under the knife last summer, Blanco turned in a 4.10 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 48:20 K:BB in 48.1 innings over nine starts with Houston.

2025 Fantasy Outlook
Blanco probably wouldn't have made the Astros' Opening Day rotation last year had the club not been dealing with multiple injuries to its starters. He did crack the rotation, though, and shocked everyone by tossing a no-hitter in his first start of the season. That set the stage for an impressive first full season in the big leagues for the 31-year-old, as Blanco finished fourth in baseball with a 2.80 ERA and tops in the game in holding the opposition to a .188 average. Blanco did have luck on his side, as an xERA of 3.97 and .220 BABIP can attest. That said, his slider was one of the best pitches in baseball and his changeup and curveball had a whiff rate of over 33 percent, as well. Some level of regression for Blanco in 2025 is likely, but he should be a capable fantasy starter again.

Named AL POTW
Blanco was named the American League Player of the Week on Monday, reports Chandler Rome of The Athletic.
Analysis
It's a well-earned honor for the right-hander, who delivered a no-hitter in his season debut against Toronto and followed up with six scoreless innings at Texas. Blanco didn't begin the season with much hype at the back end of Houston's rotation, but he's been electric through two starts and has provided a much-needed boost to an injury-riddled staff.
