2026 Fantasy Outlook
After missing the entire 2024 campaign following UCL reconstruction with an internal brace, Stephenson was limited to just 12 appearances for the Angels last season because of more arm issues. Though the sample size was small, the right-hander continued throwing the cutter he implemented a few years ago while with the Rays organization. Stephenson finished 2025 on the injured list with right elbow inflammation, and it's unclear whether he's been able to have a normal offseason throwing program. If healthy for 2026, Stephenson could get an opportunity to close for Los Angeles, though Ben Joyce (shoulder) is also a candidate for that role. Neither has much experience in the ninth inning - Stephenson has three career saves to Joyce's four - so closing duties could simply come down to whose healthy if the Angels don't sign or trade for a more established closer this offseason. Stephenson was one of the Angels' biggest signings last offseason, but he spent the first season of his 3-year pact with Los Angeles on the injured list. The right-hander dealt with shoulder inflammation early on, then subsequently suffered a torn UCL last April while pitching in a minor-league rehab game. Stephenson had a brace inserted to help stabilize his elbow and hopefully accelerate his recovery timeline, but he's unlikely to return before mid-season 2025. When healthy, the 31-year-old is a likely candidate to receive regular save opportunities for the Angels. All eyes will be on the effectiveness of Stephenson's cutter that he implemented in 2023 with great success.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Should be ready for Opening Day
Stephenson, who's recovering from a shoulder injury, believes he'll be ready for Opening Day, according to Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com.
Analysis
Stephenson has yet to make his Cactus League debut, and it's uncertain when he'll be able to pitch at all, but the right-hander believes he'll be ready for Opening Day. Stephenson, who tossed a bullpen session Monday, pitched 10 innings across 12 appearances for the Angels in 2025 while posting a 2.70 ERA with a 1.00 WHIP. If he's healthy, he should be in the mix for a late-inning role out of the Halos' bullpen.
