Robert Gasser

Robert Gasser

27-Year-Old PitcherSP
Milwaukee Brewers
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Gasser underwent Tommy John surgery in June 2024 and returned to the big leagues in September 2025, positioning himself as a rotation option for 2026. The 26-year-old southpaw attacks hitters with two distinct low-90s fastballs, a sweeper, a changeup and a seldom-thrown cutter, getting by on depth of arsenal, guile and pitchability rather than loud stuff. His career swinging-strike rate is 10.6 percent, which is just below what southpaws Andrew Abbott and Matthew Boyd managed last year and a hair better than the likes of David Peterson and Yusei Kikuchi, so Gasser's Ks should tick up a bit over a larger sample. Brewers starters typically benefit from strong coaching and defense, so Gasser is in a good place to maximize his potential. Gasser probably won't be so good that you leave him in your mixed-league fantasy lineup every week, but he has a decent chance to be a high-end streamer in average or better matchups. He has thrown under 50 innings each of the last two seasons, so pushing up to around 120 innings would be considered a success in 2026. Read Past Outlooks

Impressive in no-decision
PMilwaukee Brewers
June 17, 2026
Gasser didn't factor in the decision Tuesday against Cleveland. He tossed 5.2 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and two walks while fanning five.
Analysis
Gasser allowed a season-high six runs across five innings in a loss to the Athletics in Las Vegas in his previous start, but he bounced back admirably and delivered his first scoreless outing of the campaign. Gasser's inconsistencies limit his fantasy appeal; he has allowed two earned runs or fewer in three of his five starts, but in the other two, he's given up 10 runs on 12 hits. Gasser is still searching for his first win of the season and is lined up to make his next start this weekend against Atlanta.

Stat Review
How does Robert Gasser compare to other starting pitchers?
This section compares his stats with all starting pitcher seasons from the previous three seasons (minimum 120 innings)*. The bar represents the player's percentile rank. For example, if the bar is halfway across, then the player falls into the 50th percentile for that stat and it would be considered average.

* Exit Velocity, Barrels/BBE %, Balls Hit 95+ MPH %, and Spin Rate are benchmarked against 2019 data (min 120 IP). See here for more exit velocity/barrels stats plus an explanation of current limitations with that data set.
  • K/BB

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2025
2024
2023
Gasser is one of Milwaukee's top prospects and delivered a 2.57 ERA and 16:1 K:BB in his first five big-league starts in 2024, but he was lost for the season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in June. The left-hander is likely to spend most of the 2025 campaign rehabbing from the procedure, though he could make an impact late in the season. Realistically, Gasser won't be a major contributor for the Brewers or fantasy managers until 2026.
A 24-year-old lefty who safely projects to make it as at least a back-end starter, Gasser has thrown 161.2 innings at Triple-A and finished 2023 with a 3.09 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 115 strikeouts over his final 93.1 innings. What Gasser lacks in quality offerings (zero plus pitches, 92-mph average fastball velocity) he makes up for in quantity -- he threw over 100 four-seamers, changeups, curveballs, cutters, sinkers, sliders and sweepers at Triple-A. His game is to keep hitters guessing while adeptly locating his pitches. What used to be a deep, talented Brewers rotation is now extremely top-heavy, so the back few spots should be cycled based on merit and health, and Gasser will surely get a look at some point, if not at the beginning of the season. He doesn't have the type of electric arsenal to be a bullpen weapon, so Gasser should stay stretched out all year.
We may never know for sure, but Gasser may have been the return piece Milwaukee most coveted from San Diego in the surprise Josh Hader deal at the deadline. Esteury Ruiz, the other top player the Brewers got back, has already been flipped in the three-team trade that sent William Contreras to Milwaukee. Gasser remains, and has a chance to follow in the impressive line of young starters to populate the Brewers' rotation. He had a 3.47 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 57:24 K:BB in 46.2 innings across nine starts at Double-A and Triple-A after the trade - the 23-year-old's first starts above High-A. As things stand, Gasser would be the most exciting option whenever the Brewers need a sixth starter, and he is nearing big-league readiness. That said, the team generally breaks in their prized pitching prospects out of the bullpen before moving them to the rotation full time. Gasser looks more like a No. 4 starter based just on his low-90s fastball velocity and secondary offerings. However, his deceptive left-handed delivery and the ride he gets on his fastball allow the pitch to play up when he is locating it. Additionally, his slider and changeup play perfectly off his fastball, so it's easy to see how the Brewers could turn him into a No. 3 starter as long as he throws enough strikes.

Candidate to crack rotation
PMilwaukee Brewers
March 6, 2026
Gasser is in the mix to earn a rotation spot with the Brewers ahead of the 2026 regular season, according to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com.
Analysis
An elbow injury limited Gasser to just two regular-season appearances in 2025, but he's healthy in 2026, and that means he'll continue battling for a rotation role before the start of the 2026 season. He's in a battle for a rotation spot alongside names such as Brandon Sproat, Kyle Harrison and Logan Henderson.
