Rest-of-Season Projections
Pushed off 40-man roster
The Marlins outrighted Campbell (elbow) off the 40-man roster Wednesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Campbell is set to miss most, if not all, of the 2023 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery, so the Marlins weren't keen on tendering him a contract for the upcoming campaign. He'll remain in the organization after clearing waivers and should be able to continue his rehab program at the Marlins' spring facility in Jupiter, Fla. Campbell made two minor-league appearances in 2022 before going under the knife earlier this summer.

2021 Fantasy Outlook
A 21st-round pick by the Rays in 2017, Campbell was not seen publicly on a baseball field in 2020 after dealing with a forearm strain early in the calendar year. Regardless the Marlins took Campbell in December's Rule 5 draft. Campbell had a nice season between High-A and Double-A in 2019, and Eric Longenhagen of FanGraphs noted that the righty can spin his fastball a great deal (2650 rpm on average in 2019) despite middling velocity. That spin has not led to many strikeouts and it's questionable whether the Marlins will be able to keep Campball on the big-league roster all year. By rule, the Marlins will have to keep him on the roster or else offer him back to the Rays. Campbell is going to be 26 this summer and may be able to hold his own better than a lot of Rule 5 picks, but he will likely play a minimal role if he's even on the club, working mostly in mop-up duty.
