Analysis
Naughton missed all of 2025 and most of 2024 due to a pair of elbow surgeries, first to repair a flexor strain and later to fix a torn UCL. He's finally fully healthy and is in camp as a non-roster invitee to compete for a spot in the Cardinals' bullpen. Naughton held a 4.14 ERA and 36:8 K:BB over 37 frames from 2022-2023 with St. Louis.

Naughton has split his time between St. Louis and Triple-A Memphis this year, compiling a 4.78 ERA in 32 innings for the Cardinals and a 2.08 ERA in 21.2 innings for the Redbirds. The 26-year-old wouldn't be a likely candidate to be optioned again during the balance of the regular season anyhow, so the organization should be able to avoid having to expose him to waivers. While the lefty has a relatively high ERA, he's only allowed three homers and has a 31:7 K:BB in the majors, making it likely he's given a shot at a full-time role in St. Louis' bullpen next year.
